Do most authors love autumn?

I truly do not know the answer to the question proposed in the title of this post. I hope I haven't bursted your bubble.

I'm sure a quick Google search or survey on social media would yield results, but my purpose is to brag about how wonderful the season is and the question opens up the door for me to talk about it. (That was a bit sneaky on my part.)

Autumn makes this author happy. I love the weather, changing leaves, wardrobe, pumpkins and everything the season has to share.

I enjoy firing up the oven and baking delicious treats and slipping into a pair of fuzzy socks while sipping on hot drinks.

Curling up on the coach with a blanket and good book are high on my list of things that I enjoy as well.

But, as an author, nothing beats sitting in bed with my laptop, notebook and pink pen, reading glasses, and a cup of piping hot herbal tea!
You guessed it, this is my favorite writing spot.

Over the last year, I have landed a column for Writer's Digest and Pastry Arts magazines. I've been revamping and writing again for all of my blogs.
You may be wondering...Deanna, how many blogs do you have?

Three. Deanna has three, because she's crazy and keeps adding to her overflowing plate.

The bottom line is, I love to write! And autumn brings out the cozy writing in me.

Should a writer be a reader?

What are your thoughts on reading books? Should a writer/author be a reader as well?

I think so. Please allow me to explain why:

1. It helps us to know what has already been written

2. It keeps us up to date on current plot trends

3. Reading will help keep us inspired

4. The more we read, the more we can learn about the craft of writing

For me personally, reading takes me away to a far-off place. It allows me to escape my current reality, even if it's for 15 or 20 minutes. That reason in itself keeps me turning the pages.

Sometimes we all need to escape for a while...do you agree?

Do you write when you're not in the mood?

What is Blogmas?

I have recently learned about Blogmas. It is when a blogger writes on their blog every day for the month of December...much like an Advent Calendar! Only, there is no candy involved.

So, here I am, making a solid effort to participate this year. I may be a few days late, but I have always said...Better late than never!

Who's in? Will you join me?

When we share our Blogmas posts on social media, we must add the hashtag #Blogmas, this way we can all support one another.

COVID-19 writing

I have a question...have any writers found that they have been more productive through the pandemic?

I for one, have definitely found myself writing and creating more. I am up earlier in the morning and find myself staying up later at night. Which may or may not require more coffee. I often wonder if coffee sales have skyrocketed through this thing!

I have published 3 new books and started writing 2 more.

Picture This, is my new novella, The Ultimate Guide to Cheesecakes, is my new cookbook, and Step Out and Invite Them Anyway, is a guide to hospitality.

In addition, I have been blogging with a dash of podcasting thrown into the mix.

I would say, I am staying productive with my writing. All this in addition to having a family and 2 home businesses! I offer social media management and copy editing for authors. I have just put together a photography we4bsite as well, where I am selling digital photos for authors to use on their projects. I love doing all I can to help fellow authors!

I have a home bakery as well and have been taking orders, orders, and more orders!

Just like you, I have a lot on my plate...but, I am thankful for it all!

Writing and Editing tips: Keeping your body comfortable

We are going to take a look at different equipment you can use as a writer and/or editor as well as ways to keep your body comfortable while you work.

Desktop Vs. Laptop

Benefits of a laptop:
You can work while you travel.
The downside of a laptop:
They make work harder on the body. Because of the construction, the screen is too low while you type, which causes you to have to look down, and this causes extra stress on your neck and spine.

If you like to work from bed, I have an idea for you:
1. A wooden bed table
2. a sturdy chair pillow
These items will save your back and neck...no more bending forward to reach your laptop!
(See above photo)

Benefits of a desktop:
You can make it ergonomically correct. Add a wrist rest, a footrest, a table to lift your monitor, and back support for your chair.
You can purchase 2 flat screen monitors. Having 2 monitors will benefit you when you are comparing two versions of a document, doing research for your work, and in many other instances.

The downside of a desktop:
You have to sit in the same place every time you need to work.

General tip: Turn down the blue on your screen or purchase a pair of blue light glasses. This will protect your eyes and may help your eyes from getting tired.
